1. Why do you practice yoga?

I began practicing yoga regularly in order to reconnect to my body and experience joyful movement. I no longer found enjoyment in traditional forms of exercise I once loved (running, lifting weights) and felt that yoga would allow me to move my body in a way that felt good, while also challenging me physically and mentally.

2. What's your favorite pose and why?

Shavasana is my favorite pose because I find it the most challenging. Other poses may be more physically challenging, but it's much easier to be mentally engaged during those difficult poses when your focus has to be on muscle engagement and balance. In shavasana I find it very hard to quiet my mind. Each time I arrive on my mat I know there will be a new opportunity to practice letting go of my thoughts.

3. What's your favorite thing about practicing at SoulPlay?

I love the diversity of the classes and the diversity of the community. At SoulPlay there are humans of all ages, colors, shapes and sizes. I was seeking a studio that included body diversity, age diversity, and a feeling of inclusivity.

4. What is your most memorable yoga experience?

My most memorable yoga experience was on the black sand beach on the western coast of Costa Rica. The yoga instructor agreed to lead a sunset class for three of us on the beach as our trip came to a close. It was one of the most beautiful experiences. When I am meditating I often picture myself in tree pose on that black sand beach as the setting sun warms my body. It really helps me focus and center myself.

5. What 3 words describe you?

Passionate, introspective, curious
